It’s Not About the Destination, It’s About the Journey

July 09, 2015

If National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation has taught us anything, it’s that the journey is about the experience, not the destination. Summer road trips are a time to explore the open road and see things we have never seen before. Road trips allow us the opportunity to bond with our friends and family in an up-close and intimate environment. Make sure those road trips are a pleasant ride by having your car serviced by one of our Ziebart locations!

Prepare

With the U.S. gas prices down around 80 cents per gallon compared to last year, expect a road trip invite to come your way sometime this summer. Whether you're tagging along with friends or planning one of your own, make sure you're prepared!

Put the Phone Away –

Seriously. Put the phone away. The National Highway Administration reports that drivers who are on their phones while driving are 23 times more likely to be involved in a crash compared to those who aren't distracted. What would be the point of going out to enjoy the sights if your face is buried in your phone screen anyway? We say all technology should be an afterthought when you're planning your road trip. If you do happen to become completely enamored with something you have driven by, turn around and take a picture of whatever it was once you're outside the car. It’s just the smart thing to do.

Bring a Buddy-

Not just to share in the whole experience of it all, but to assist on your trip as well. Having a buddy means you can sleep in turns, plan routes together, have an assistant navigator and someone to share in the delight of seeing new things. Plus, you can’t play the alphabet game by yourself.

Check That, Charge This, Clean That -

Probably the most important step in making sure you're prepared is to make sure your car is ready for the trip. Change the oil, check the brakes, check your tire pressure, check your coolant level, check your hoses, check your Freon level, get an engine tune-up and make sure that battery is solid. Once all that is done, make sure your ride is clean. Who wants to drive around the country for weeks in a dirty car that smells like old French fries and dog hair? Do your driving buddies a favor and have a professional clean your car. They'll thank you for it, trust us.

Wherever the road takes you this summer, we hope you get to experience new and incredible things. Getting in your car and just going somewhere can be a-once-in-a-lifetime experience, so make the most of it.
