Keeping Up With Car Tech at the 2015 North American International Auto Show

January 27, 2015

The North American International Auto Show just wrapped up here in Detroit, MI. Every year, auto manufacturers from around the globe come to show off and display their new creations and models, making this one of the hottest automotive events in the world.

Every year, we make sure we attend the Auto Show. We confess that it’s partly to enjoy the sights and catch up with local automotive experts, but the Auto Show is also business time for Ziebart. The Auto Show is a great opportunity for our product team to get an up-close and personal look at every single new model, while they are all under the same roof at the same time. Our team spent countless hours inspecting and recording data on all 148 vehicles to ensure that we know how to best service every vehicle that hits the pavement.

Here are a few trends that the Ziebart tech team noticed and our thoughts.

Aluminum Bodies
In order to reduce vehicle weight and improve gas mileage, some manufacturers are now starting to utilize aluminum for body panels. A great example of this is Ford Motor Company’s incredible new F-150.

While previewing this beauty, a frequent comment that we heard from observers was that aluminum body vehicles won’t rust. We thought it might be important to note that rust is the byproduct of iron corrosion. So yes, since the body is not steel or iron, technically an aluminum body vehicle won’t “rust”. However, aluminum is not immune from corrosion.

If you have ever looked at aluminum alloy wheels and noticed a white “crusty” buildup, this is the byproduct of aluminum’s corrosion process, aluminum oxide. If you are fortunate enough to purchase an aluminum body vehicle (like the new F-150), we still recommend getting Ziebart Rust Protection. While the name implies it only stops rust, our chemicals actually stop oxidization from happening. Additionally, the frames of these vehicles are still made from steel (which will rust). An aluminum body vehicle treated with Ziebart will look amazing for a very long time.

Luxurious Interiors
Have you noticed how vehicle interiors have become crazy nice over the past few years? We have. Seriously, even simple economy commuter cars like the 2015 Honda Civic are receiving luxurious interior upgrades. When your vehicle looks this amazing on the inside, we recommend investing in an annual (or bi-annual if you’re feeling crazy) interior detailing.

A complete interior detailing will ensure that your vehicle’s luxurious interior surfaces are protected and receive the care that they deserve.  It also benefits the driver and passengers. Driving in a clean and sanitary environment will keep you and your passengers healthy, while also reducing stress caused by spending time in a cluttered and dirty environment.

Electricity Everywhere
The future of vehicles is electricity. The electric vehicle has made tremendous strides over the years and now most manufacturers are offering their own version of the electric vehicle. While electric motors have forced manufacturers to rethink how vehicles move, one thing hasn’t changed: the demands of the road and Mother Nature will take their toll on your vehicle. We recommend talking to your local Ziebart about how your electric vehicle can benefit from our entire array of auto care services.

We had a great time at the 2015 North American International Auto Show and are excited to witness and be a part of the incredible things happening within the automotive industry! We would like to thank all of those who made this year’s auto show so memorable and for the great city of Detroit, MI for continuing this tradition!
